In Transcarpathia, the prosecutor's office reported the suspicion of an official from the Uzhan National Nature Park, with whose permission more than 2,000 trees were illegally cut down.
This caused losses of over 157 million hryvnias, the press service of the Zakarpattia Regional Prosecutor's Office reports.
It is noted that trees were cut down in the Uzhan National Park during the autumn-winter period of 2021 and the spring-summer period of 2022.
In the message, it was emphasized that the official was notified of the suspicion of exceeding official powers due to a previous conspiracy by a group of persons, which caused serious consequences (Part 2 of Article 28, Part 3 of Article 365 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
"The person, being an official of the state protection of the natural reserve fund of Ukraine, i.e. a law enforcement agency, had to ensure the preservation of the unique natural complexes of the Carpathians, located on the territory of the national park," the press service emphasized.
The procedural management was carried out by the Specialized Environmental Prosecutor's Office. The pre-trial investigation in criminal proceedings is carried out by investigators of the State Bureau of Investigation with the participation of the Department of Internal Security of the National Police and the special unit of the KORD.
