Since the beginning of 2023, customs officers have discovered 8 similar violations

In Transcarpathia, on the border with Hungary, customs officers discovered the illegal export of timber worth almost 300,000 hryvnias.

The violator provided documents with false information, and the timber certificate was issued to another batch, Transcarpathian Customs reports on Facebook.

It is noted that the violator transported a batch of 972 pieces of lumber, with a volume of 39 m3, worth €6.2 thousand.

Customs officials discovered certain discrepancies with the documentation during a visual inspection of the cargo at the "Tysa" post. The declared information did not correspond to the actual cargo and did not match the data in the invoice and the Certificate of origin of timber for export operations.

They also found a discrepancy in the documented and actual quantities of cargo.

In the message, it was emphasized that a protocol was drawn up against the violator under Part 1 of Article 483 of the Customs Code. Currently, the cargo with lumber has been temporarily seized pending a court decision.

"Officials of the Zakarpattia customs house control the export of forest and wood materials, especially valuable species, as much as possible. But this does not stop the "dealers", and they always resort to new attempts to circumvent the customs legislation and illegally export forest products abroad," the customs officers emphasized.

They added that for January-April 2023, 8 protocols on violations related to the export of wood were drawn up by customs officials.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in November 2021, the Security Service of Ukraine blocked a large-scale forest smuggling channel. Since the beginning of the year, criminals managed to transport more than 2 million hryvnias worth of wood and timber abroad with forged documents.
