In Kharkiv region, prosecutors have served four residents with a notice of suspicion for cutting down 150 trees, causing more than UAH 1 million in damage.

The trees were destroyed on the territory of Sharivske and Kolomatske forestries, the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office reports on Facebook.

"According to the investigation, a 28-year-old resident of Bogodukhov decided to earn a living by selling illegally cut wood. The man, realizing that he would not be able to implement the criminal plan on his own, involved his wife and two other acquaintances in the illegal scheme," the press service said.

The prosecutor's office emphasized that the "organizer" directed the actions of the group and looked for places for felling. The other two men carried out his instructions, including cutting the trees directly and delivering them to the buyers. The fourth suspect placed advertisements on the network and communicated with customers.

It is noted that specialists of the Specialized Environmental Prosecutor's Office worked on the case together with the police.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in Kharkiv Oblast, law enforcement officers have exposed black loggers who, since 2021, have illegally cut down trees worth 1 million hryvnias.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in the Chernivtsi region, eco-inspectors discovered the felling of 166 trees along the Stanivtsi-Petrasivka highway, which caused damages of more than 4.7 million hryvnias.
