Metinvest Group announced its intention to produce DRI products (green steel) at its rebuilt plants in Mariupol and Avdiivka in the Donetsk region after the de-occupation.

The company is currently looking for future buyers in Sweden, Austria and Germany, RBC-Ukraine reports.

It is noted that the resumption of the work of factories, in particular, the production of carbon-neutral steel, will give a new impetus to the development of Ukrainian steel industry.

"The fact that Metinvest is able to produce DRI products and can increase its volume opens up new European markets for us," said Yuri Ryzhenkov, CEO of the company.

He noted that one of the most important factors that will help resume the work of the mining and metallurgical complex, and hence the country's economy, is the opening of Ukrainian ports for export.

Ryzhenkov said that during the full-scale war, Metinvest had to build new logistics from scratch. The company also took care of the availability of alternative sources of electricity.

The material added that Metinvest joined the military initiative "Steel Front", as well as humanitarian and military assistance. In addition, the company announced its readiness to supply steel for the restoration of destroyed infrastructure and housing.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that Metinvest Group CEO Yuriy Ryzhenkov said that the company is ready to join the green transition of Ukraine and Europe, as well as the restoration of the country, in particular Mariupol.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, the Metinvest group of mining and metallurgical companies paid UAH 600 million in environmental taxes to the state and local budgets in 2022.
