By 2026, 2 more indicative stations and one stationary atmospheric air monitoring post are planned to be installed in Sumy region

The first state air monitoring station was installed in Konotop within the Sumy zone, which will allow monitoring air quality around the clock.

The station will record air temperature, humidity, pressure, nitrogen oxides, ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, carbon monoxide, PM2.5 and PM10 dust, the Sumy Regional Military Administration reports on Facebook.

"Monitoring the state of the atmospheric air is a progressive step in today's realities. Constant intense shelling and criminal enemy attacks on infrastructure objects have a negative impact on the state of the environment, which requires a thorough study," said Volodymyr Artyukh, head of the Sumy OVA.

He added that there are plans to expand the network of monitoring stations in the region in order to solve urgent environmental problems based on operational and reliable data.

It is noted that the station was installed with funds from the regional environmental protection fund and the Konotop City Council. Air quality monitoring is part of the state monitoring of the "Sumska" zone. By 2026, two more indicative stations and one stationary atmospheric air monitoring post are planned to be installed in other cities of the region.

As EcoPolitic reported earlier, Sumy entered the TOP-10 cities of Ukraine with exceeding the maximum permissible concentrations of nitrogen dioxide in the first half of 2023.
