The volume of electricity generated by Ukraine from renewable energy sources (RES) in 2024 increased by 6.4% compared to 2023, and the share of RES in the balance reached almost 11%.
These data are provided by Daria Orlova, an analyst of the electricity market at ExPro Consulting.
This value of the volume of energy produced takes into account electricity generated by solar power plants (SPP), wind power plants (WPP), small hydroelectric power plants (SHPP) and biomass.
The share of electricity from RES in the total energy balance of Ukraine on a monthly basis in 2024 is as follows:

We can see that the largest share of RES in the structure of domestic generation was in June – 18.1%, but in terms of volume, the annual maximum of energy production from these sources was in August and amounted to 1165 thousand MWh. The minimum corresponding figure was observed in December.
According to the Ukrainian Wind Energy Association, only 20 MW of new wind farm capacity was installed last year. But experts predict more optimistic figures for this year.
According to the Association of Solar Energy of Ukraine, the capacity of SPPs increased by about 850 MW last year.
The expert also reminded that the approximate capacity of renewable energy facilities currently under occupation is about 3.5 GW.
As EcoPolitic previously reported, according to IEA experts, renewable energy sources and nuclear power will be able to cover the growing demand for electricity in the world.
We also announced that in the EU Clean Industry Agreement, which is to be published on February 26, its drafters will open up new opportunities for governments to finance industrial decarbonization and renewable energy production.
