On September 14, drivers near Kyiv, along the Zhytomyr highway, not far from Dobropark, noticed fields burning.

This was reported by local residents on social media.

Videos taken from car windows show black smoke drifting along the Zhytomyr highway. The fires in the fields were probably caused by illegal burning of dead wood.

We would like to inform you that EcoPolitics journalists did not find any additional information about the arsons on the official websites of the State Emergency Service, police and other agencies.

It should be reminded that arson of fields, forests and other areas is punishable by a fine of UAH 3060-6120, and for officials – UAH 15,300-21,420. For the same actions committed within the territories and objects of the nature reserve fund, the fine is in the range of UAH 6,120-12,240, and for officials – UAH 21,420-30,600.

In addition, rescuers noted that burning dead wood in the fields does not improve fertility, but rather harms crops. In addition, such fires, due to negligence, create an additional burden on the SES, which in times of war can lead to tragic consequences due to excessive stress on the structure.

EcoPolitic also advises that since the beginning of the year, a dozen peat fires have been recorded in Poltava Oblast. Most often, the fires were caused by burning dead wood.

Earlier, the EcoPolic team wrote that in Odesa region, fires caused losses of UAH 28 billion, because despite constant warnings from rescuers, Ukrainians still set fire to dead wood and garbage. This not only destroys the environment, but also causes large-scale fires that often get out of control.
