The amount of water lost would be enough to feed all of humanity for 2 days

The estimated amount of damage to the environment due to the detonation by the occupiers of the Kakhovskaya HPP reached €1.5 billion.

Oleksandr Prokudin, the head of the Kherson OVA, told about it based on the results of the field meeting of the Committee on Environmental Policy and Nature Management, the Headquarters for the Liquidation of the Consequences of the Kakhova HPP explosion reported in Telegram.

He emphasized that about 55,000 hectares of forest were flooded due to the explosion. In addition, the world has lost such an amount of water, which would be enough for the drinking needs of all mankind for 2 days.

It is noted that at the meeting of the environmental committee, people's deputies considered a number of important issues regarding the improvement of the environmental situation in the region, including:

  • constant monitoring of the state of the environment and the epidemiological situation;
  • urgent drilling of new wells;
  • providing the population with drinking water;
  • evacuation and ways to restore the region;
  • state control over pricing of drinking water in the Kherson region.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that due to the undermining of the Kakhovskaya HPP in Nikopolsky and part of Kryvorizky districts Dnipropetrovsk Region was left without water supply. Residents are delivered technical and drinking water to 53 delivery points.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, it took place on June 12 away meeting of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on issues of environmental policy and nature management in the Kherson Region regarding overcoming the negative impact on the environment and livelihood systems of the population as a result of the destruction of the Kakhovskaya HPP.
