Since the beginning of the full-scale war, eco-inspectors have recorded large-scale environmental changes that have an extremely negative impact on the natural environment of Ukraine and the entire European continent.
Thus, since February 24, 2022, 686,168 tons of petroleum products were burned during the shelling, which polluted the air with dangerous substances, the State Environmental Inspection reports on Facebook.
"February 24 changed the life of every Ukrainian before and after," the press service emphasized.
It was noted that during this period the State Environmental Inspection has the following data:
- 280,132 m2 of soil is contaminated with hazardous substances;
- 11,079,525 m2 of land is littered with the remains of destroyed objects and ammunition;
- 59,150 hectares of forests and other plantations were burned by rockets and shells, some of them, according to the most optimistic forecasts, will be restored within ten years, the rest are lost forever;
- 979,113 m2 of objects, including critical infrastructure, were destroyed, and their remains caused damage to the environment;
- 1,574 tons of pollutants entered water bodies;
- 932,594 kg – mass of extraneous objects, materials, waste and/or other substances;
- 410,150,000 m3 – volume of water collected/used arbitrarily.
EcoPolitic wrote, that the Russian aggression has harmed Ukraine's environment damage in the amount of more than $46 billion, and the state will demand compensation for these losses from the Russian Federation.
As EcoPolitic previously reported, eco-inspectors calculated more than 55.7 billion hryvnias in losses from Russian aggression for pollution, clogging of waters and arbitrary use of water resources during 10 months of full-scale war.
