A solar power plant (SPP) has been installed in the Bohuslav community in the Kyiv region to provide electricity for the process of pumping and treating wastewater.
This was reported by the NGO Ecoclub.
The SPP has a capacity of 73.08 kW. The cost of this project is almost €55,300. Its funding was provided by German partners within the framework of the Renewable Energy for Sustainable Ukraine project.
The Ecoclub reported that to ensure high-quality water treatment, powerful pumps pump the community's wastewater 9 km from the city. This requires a lot of electricity. That is why the community's sewage tariffs are among the highest in the region.
According to Pavlo Pavlichenko, head of the Economics and Revenue Department of the Bohuslav City Community, officials expect to save about 15% thanks to the SPP. According to preliminary estimates, the station will generate more than 79 thousand kWh per year.
"This is how the water utility will save about UAH 770 thousand annually at the tariff this year," he said.
The community planned to establish the SES before the start of a full -scale invasion within the development strategy, they say in Ecoclub.
Pavel Pavlichenko also said that this is the second solar power plant in the community. The first SES was installed for the water intake and were satisfied with the result.
“We gained experience, were able to substantiate and bring the benefit of the station to our residents. Now it is much easier to promote and embody such projects, ”he shares.
Also, the head of the department of economics and income said that the next project was planned in the community – the establishment of SES for the hospital. Still city authorities want to install solar power plants for all municipal establishments .Additionally, the community is now increasing the capacity of the SES at the water treatment station – there are planned additional 25 kW. Saved funds plan to spend on other energy efficient measures.
In Cherkasy region, new SPP will help Vodokanal save 225 thousand UAH per year.
