Specialists of the Zhytomyr Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, together with the Department of Ecology and Natural Resources of the City Council, are monitoring the air quality to determine the level of pollution.

Following the recommendations of environmentalists, the city council decided to temporarily change the work of educational institutions:

  • the city's schools have been switched to a distance learning format;
  • kindergartens are operating as usual, but outdoor activities have been temporarily canceled;
  • all competitions and training sessions of sports schools scheduled for the open air have also been canceled.

Zhytomyr residents were advised to take the following preventive measures

  • close windows and doors in their homes;
  • limit outdoor activities, especially in areas where smoke is smelled, if possible;
  • turn on air conditioning or air purification systems, if available;
  • use masks or respirators if necessary.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, prosecutors of the Bilyayivka District Prosecutor's Office in Odesa Oblast served a notice of suspicion of negligence and air pollution to the director of a utility company who was responsible for operating a solid waste landfill but systematically neglected his duties. As a result, a large-scale fire broke out at the landfill, which lasted 11 days.

We also told you that firefighters have given shocking figures on the area and number of fires in Ukraine per day.
