There will be only ten interregional bodies

A major reorganization is in store for the State Environmental Inspection of Ukraine. The government has decided to reduce the number of its regional offices and, consequently, the maximum number of employees.

According to the Ministry of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted the relevant resolution on April 29.

What will change?

Previously, the State Environmental Inspection consisted of seven territorial districts and 11 regional bodies. Instead, ten interregional territorial bodies will be established.

Through the consolidation of regional bodies and the integration of some of them into existing districts, five new districts will be created:

  • Western;
  • Northern;
  • Northwestern;
  • Podilsky;
  • Eastern.

This decision is justified by the Strategy for Reforming the State Environmental Supervision System until 2029. The government also refers to the presidential decree issued in 2025, which provides for the reduction of bureaucratic procedures and the audit of public expenditures.

The Ministry of Economy believes that such optimisation of the environmental control body will increase its efficiency and enhance its capacity to operate under martial law. It is also expected to lead to a more rational use of budget funds.

EcoPolitic previously reported that in the unified Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture, only 126 officials are responsible for environmental issues.
