The first month of spring this year turned out to be abnormal for the capital in terms of all climatic parameters. Unseasonably warm weather was accompanied by a near-total lack of precipitation.
This was reported by the Boris Sreznevsky Central Geophysical Observatory.
Temperature swings
The difference between the lowest and highest temperatures in March was as much as 19.6 °C.
Meteorologists recorded the month’s lowest temperature in the early morning of March 1. At that time, the thermometer dropped to -1.6 °C.
The warmest day of the spring month was the 27th. On that day, the thermometer read +17.8 °C.
In terms of average temperatures, March ranked fourth among the warmest months since records began.

March drought
During this time, the observatory also measured precipitation levels. The equipment on Nauky Avenue recorded just 1 mm of precipitation for the entire month, which is only 3% of the monthly norm.
This anomaly made March 2026 the driest in Kyiv's recorded history, which has been monitored since 1891.
