The Zhytomyr Cardboard Factory has completed energy modernization work on one of its workshops. The project was implemented thanks to co-financing from the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ).

Results in numbers
The project to improve the energy efficiency of production was implemented with joint funding: 20% from GIZ, over 30% from bank loans, and about 50% from the company's own funds.
Thanks to the work carried out, the cardboard factory managed to reduce its energy costs by 18%. Overall, the production process now requires significantly less thermal energy – 65,000 GJ.
“If we look at the results, everything was completed in full and on time. I believe this is truly remarkable, considering all the circumstances – power outages, workforce issues – yet it was still possible to accomplish and implement on schedule,” noted GIZ “BAT for Ukraine” project director Gabriel Sauer.
Comprehensive effect
The project increased production energy savings, while also reducing its negative environmental impact through indirect emissions. At the same time, the savings on energy costs allow for a reduction in the production cost of cardboard and paper products.
“This is a vivid example of how you can combine and achieve environmental results – reducing emissions, improving the environmental profile of the region, and gaining an economic effect,” emphasized Ministry of Economy of Ukraine representative Bohdan Semenenko.

The Ministry of Economy has presented the “Green Platform” for business – an online hub to search for sustainable development project financing.
The state will also compensate businesses for the interest rate on “green” loans aimed at implementing energy-efficient measures.
