Complete energy independence: Lviv condominium association has not consumed energy from the public grid since May

Thanks to a 30 kW solar power plant, Kalyna 40 HOA saves UAH 6,000 on electricity every month

After comprehensive modernization, a 30 kW solar power plant was installed in the Kalina 40 condominium in Lviv.

Now, the annual energy savings for the building, which houses 72 families, amount to 36,000 kWh, according to the Energy Efficiency Fund.

The first step towards the building's energy independence was participation in the Energodim program. The building was insulated, the engineering communications were updated, and apartment distributors were installed. The comprehensive modernization reduced energy consumption threefold.

The next stage was the installation of solar panels capable of producing 30 kW of energy. The project, costing UAH 1.6 million, was implemented with co-financing from the Energy Efficiency Fund, the Lviv City Council, and the residents of the condominium. Solar energy supports the operation of all energy equipment in common areas – elevators, pumps, lighting, and video surveillance systems.

“We haven't turned on the power grid since May. All this time, we have been completely powered by the sun,” said Tetyana Afanasyeva, manager of the condominium association.

Installing its own solar power plant has allowed the condominium to save over UAH 6,000 per month, and annually, solar energy will offset the consumption of 36,000 kWh of energy from the general power grid.

Earlier, EcoPolitics reported on a platform with information on ways to save electricity and sources of funding for such projects.
