Kyiv Metro has launched a public discussion on possible changes to the rules for transporting animals in the capital's underground, in particular, the conditions for transporting dogs will be reviewed.

This was reported on the website of the Kyiv City Council with reference to the Department of Transport Infrastructure of the Kyiv City State Administration.

If the changes are approved, the conditions for transportation will be as follows:

  • small dogs may be transported in the metro in bags with a waterproof or absorbent bottom;
  • large dogs must be muzzled and kept on a short leash;
  • animals will be allowed in the first and last cars during off-peak hours;
  • owners must comply with sanitary and safety rules during transportation.

All responsibility for the behavior of the animal in the metro and compliance with safety requirements remains with the owner.

A large-scale survey of city residents is already underway through the Kyiv Digital app in cooperation with the charity organization UAnimals. Animal rights activists are asking people to vote for the changes at this link.

If Kyiv residents support the survey, the project will be put to a vote in the Kyiv City Council. After a positive decision by the deputies, the city will launch a six-month period to test the new rules. During this time, experts will analyze how they affect the safety and comfort of all passengers. After that, the experts will finalize the final provisions.

Earlier, EcoPolitics reported that in August, the ECO FILM FESTIVAL by CHYSTO.DE, an ecology and film festival, will take place in Zakarpattia.
