All circumstances of the incident are currently being investigated

The police of Kyiv region have opened a criminal investigation against an elderly woman over the fact of cruelty to a dog in the village of Hatne, Fastiv district.

This was reported by law enforcement officials.

They said that on March 15, the police received a report of cruelty to the dog.

“Officers of the Fastiv Police Department of the Kyiv region were working at the scene. Investigators of the Fastiv district are conducting a pre-trial investigation into this incident under Part 1 of Article 299 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (“Cruelty to animals” – ed.),” the police said.

Law enforcement officers added that the injured dog was taken to a veterinary hospital for examination and necessary assistance.

More details were provided by Snizhana Bugrik, a volunteer and representative of the animal protection organization Plushka, on Facebook. According to her, witnesses saw an 80-year-old woman apparently trying to kill the dog with an ax. The dog's paw was injured, and the animal lost a lot of blood, but managed to escape.

The dog's paw was stitched up, and he was put on an intravenous drip to restore blood loss. After recovery, he will live in a shelter.

We remind that Part 1 of Art. 299 of the Criminal Code provides for punishment in the form of restriction of liberty for a term of 1 to 3 years or imprisonment for a term of 2 to 3 years with confiscation of the animal.

Recently, EcoPolitic has prepared a large article about the Ternopil region's bestiality, which tortured wild boars and escaped punishment despite public outcry.
