It continues to be in the "green zone"

Kyiv ranked 33rd among 121 capitals in the world in terms of air quality.

This was reported by experts of the LUN website on Facebook.

They analyzed data from the annual World Air Quality Report, published by the Swiss company iQAir. According to the results, in 2024, the average PM2.5 (the concentration of harmful ultrafine dust particles with a diameter of up to 2.5 microns – ed.) in Kyiv was 9.4 μg/m³, which is slightly higher than in 2023 (8.9 μg/m³).

Despite the slight increase, Kyiv continues to be in the “green zone” and exceeds the WHO recommended values by only 1-2 times, which is not critical for health.

Our capital is ahead of Vienna, Warsaw, and Berlin in the ranking of air quality. The cleanest air in the world was found in the capital of the Bahamas, Nassau, and the dirtiest in New Delhi (India), where the concentration of PM2.5 exceeds the norm by 10 times.

The authors of the World Air Quality Report emphasized that Ukraine still faces air quality problems due to the ongoing aggression by Russia.

“The use of missiles and bombs, the movement of military equipment, and the destruction of civilian infrastructure cause significant emissions of particulate matter,” the document says.

EcoPolitic recently reported that in 2024, the air in only 7 countries met WHO quality standards.
