The value of such elements for the stability of the country's power grid will continue to grow

OKKO has put into operation a guardhouse or energy storage unit (ESU) with a total capacity of 20 MW.

This was reported by the National Energy Company Ukrenergo.

This energy facility was built and commissioned in less than six months. It was implemented within the framework of cooperation between the transmission system operator and a private investor, OKKO, based on the results of a special auction for the long-term purchase of ancillary services held in August 2024. As a reminder, the winners of the first such event guaranteed the construction of 99 MW of new capacities to provide ancillary services of frequency maintenance reserves (FMR) for a period of 5 years.

According to the terms of the special auction, the deadline for launching all the FSS is October 2025.

Oleksii Brekht, CEO of Ukrenergo, said that the grid operators are a relatively new element in the Ukrainian power system, which is critically important for stable electricity supply. According to the CEO, their importance will only grow in the future.

“The early commissioning of power facilities during the war adds even more confidence in the stable operation of the Ukrainian power system,” the company said.

As EcoPolitic reported in August 2024, Ukrenergo held the first auction for the construction of energy storage systems. DTEK will install 6 energy-saving plants with a capacity of 200 MW throughout Ukraine.
