Environmental requirements can be relaxed only for some motor vehicles

The Verkhovna Rada has registered draft law No. 12267, which provides for the postponement of the introduction of Euro 6 environmental standards for trucks and buses until January 1, 2027.

The text of the document was published on the Parliament's website.

It was initiated by a group of MPs (55 people), including: Danylo Hetmantsev, Oleksandr Fedienko, Yevhen Petruniak, Halyna Tretyakova, Yuliia Didenko, Volodymyr Ivanov, Yevheniia Kravchuk and others.

The current legislation stipulates that starting from January 1, 2025, new and used truck tractors, buses, trucks, special equipment, as well as new cars that are registered for the first time in Ukraine, must comply with Euro 6 standards. The new legislative initiative proposes to move this date forward by two years.

If MPs support this draft law, the requirement for Euro 6 compliance will not apply to vehicles under UKTZKD codes 8701 20, 8702, 8704, 8705, both for new trucks and buses and for those that have been in use.

As a reminder, Ukraine committed to introduce Euro 6 emission standards as part of the Association Agreement with the EU. But in 2019, this innovation was postponed until January 1, 2025.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote about which cars will become more expensive from January 1 due to the introduction of Euro 6. At the time, experts said that the price increase would affect the segment of used buses the most.
