The biggest climate event of the year will gather up to 100,000 delegates from 190 countries

The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine talked about plans to demonstrate its own climate achievements and inform the world about Russia's environmental crimes at the UN COP29 international climate conference in Baku.

The department posted information about the event, plans of our state and expectations from the conference in Telegram.

COP29: what is this event, its goals and agenda

The UN Conference on Climate Change (Conference of the Parties – COP) takes place every year. It is held within the framework of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the meeting of the parties under the Kyoto Protocol.

This year, COP29 will be held from November 11 to 22 in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. Up to 100,000 delegates from 190 countries will take part in the event. The event will bring together world leaders, representatives of the largest multinational corporations, scientists, experts and activists. Bilateral and multilateral meetings, innovation presentations and discussions at various levels will take place every day of the conference.

What are Ukraine's plans for COP29

The ministry said that this year Ukraine will have its own pavilion for the third time. The department promised to inform about his style and philosophy later.

At COP29, the Ukrainian delegation will demonstrate its own climate achievements, tell representatives of other countries about Russian environmental crimes, hold thematic meetings and discussions with the participation of leading experts and politicians.

The main goal of the UN climate conference in 2024

Important decisions are expected this year that will determine the future of climate action in the world. At the COP28 conference in Dubai last year, countries agreed to phase out fossil fuels. They also set ambitious goals in the field of renewable energy and energy efficiency.

The main goal of this year's Baku summit is to set a new global climate finance target for the period after 2025, which will replace the existing target of $100 billion annually.

In addition, at COP29, countries will pay a lot of attention to carbon markets, which create new opportunities to reduce emissions through a market-based approach and provide new ways to achieve climate goals.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, the new global goal of climate finance will be the central topic of the COP29 climate summit.
