This can negatively affect people's well-being

Starting from July 23, the average daily nitrogen dioxide content in the capital is approaching and exceeding the maximum permissible concentrations (MPC). The situation is expected to improve from July 29.

It is reported by the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center.

Meteorologists warned that during July 24-28, the nitrogen dioxide content in the air will reach a critical level – it will exceed the maximum permissible concentration by 5 times. They explained the sharp increase in the content of pollutants in hot, dry and low-air weather, which also contributes to the accumulation of other pollutants (sulfur dioxide and formaldehyde) in the surface layer of the air.

Experts assured that it will become easier to breathe on July 29-30.

Nitrogen dioxide is one of the most common air pollutants. According to the Hygienic Regulation "Limited Permissible Concentrations of Chemical and Biological Substances in the Atmospheric Air of Populated Places", the maximum one-time MPC of nitrogen dioxide is 0.2 mg/m3. The main toxic effect of nitrogen dioxide is irritation of mucous membranes. The first signs of poisoning are burning eyes, a drop in blood pressure, headaches and difficulty breathing.

In the event of an increase in the concentration of nitrogen dioxide in the air, experts advise spending less time outdoors and drinking more water.
