The townspeople strive to create a sustainable, modern and efficient energy system

The community of Mena in Chernihiv Oblast has become one of the winners of a project supported by the Dutch government's MATRA program and the European Climate Foundation. The project provides assistance in drafting a Municipal Energy Plan (MEP) based on the principles of "green" renewable energy. The community has developed and is effectively implementing it.

This is stated in the release of the Ukrainian analytical center DixiGroup, which was received by the EcoPolicy editorial office.

Residents of Mena want to reach a level where the community will use advanced energy-efficient solutions in all spheres of life. The community has been working on energy efficient technologies since 2013.

During this time, the townspeople have successfully implemented a number of energy efficiency projects on their territory:

  • transferred part of the boiler houses to alternative types of fuel;
  • installed solar panels on the building of the city's TsNP and built a solar battery station;
  • updated the street lighting of the city and urban settlements, using energy-saving technologies;
  • carried out an energy-efficient renovation of the premises of the "Sonechko" kindergarten;
  • began afforestation of low-fertile lands.

DixiGroup provides expert consulting assistance in drawing up the MEP in accordance with the principles of green recovery, taking into account the energy needs of the community and its resource potential.

"Measures such as insulation of buildings, modernization of heating systems and installation of renewable energy sources will be developed within the framework of the developed MEP. This will help us reduce utility costs, significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, optimize the use of available resources, and expand the use of renewable energy. Investments in energy efficiency and renewable energy sources will also stimulate the economic development of the community and create new jobs. All this will positively affect the quality of life of our residents," explains Gennadiy Primakov, the mayor of Mena, who is currently at the front.

Earlier EcoPolitic already informed that USA will help Ukrainian communities to achieve energy sustainability.

Also, we informed, how community from Cherkasy region found a method of alternative heating from waste.
