Three men convicted in Kyiv region for cutting down trees worth over UAH 1.2 million

A court in Kyiv region has sentenced three men for illegal felling of trees worth more than UAH 1.2 million.

This was reported by the press service of the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor's Office on Facebook.

Based on the public prosecution of the Bila Tserkva District Prosecutor's Office, the court sentenced three residents of the Kyiv region on the fact of illegal felling of trees (Part 4 of Article 246 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

It is reported that the convicts organized illegal logging activities on the territory of the state forestry enterprise Kyivoblagrolis. Without a permit required by law, they cut down 161 trees, thereby causing damage to the territorial community in excess of UAH 1.2 million.

"According to the outcome of the case, the court issued a verdict approving plea agreements and sentencing the defendants to 5 years of imprisonment each with exemption from serving the sentence with a probationary period of 2 years," the press service reported.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, State environmental inspectors together with police officers identified and detained persons who illegally cut down ancient green plantations in the territory of Bereziv district of Odesa region.
