Specialists of the observatory analyzed 1,464 air samples

The average daily maximum permissible concentration of nitrogen dioxide in the air in Kyiv was found to be 3.9 times higher than the average daily maximum permissible concentration.

Compared to the previous week, the content of nitrogen dioxide and sulfur dioxide in the air increased, according to the weekly air pollution report from the Borys Sreznevsky Central Geophysical Observatory.

According to the observatory, the maximum permissible concentration (MPC) of nitrogen dioxide was exceeded by the average daily content:

  • in 1.1-3.9 times – on Bessarabska and Halytskaya squares, Beresteyskyi, Obolonskyi and Nauka avenues, Lesya Ukrainka boulevard, in the Hydropark district, Akademik Strazheska, Oleksandr Dovzhenko, Hetman Pavlo Polubotka, Inzhener Borodin, Kaunaska and Semyon Sklyarenko streets .

Exceeding the MPC by average daily content of sulfur dioxide:

  • in 1.5-2.6 times – on Bessarabska and Halytskaya squares, Beresteisky and Obolonsky avenues, Lesya Ukrainka boulevard, in the Hydropark area, Akademik Strazheska, Oleksandr Dovzhenko, Hetman Pavlo Polubotka, Inzhener Borodin, Kaunaska and Semyon Sklyarenko streets;
  • no excesses were observed at 37 Nauky Ave. (in the area of the meteorological station).

Exceeding the MPC by average daily formaldehyde content:

  • 1.0-2.4 times – on Halytskaya and Bessarabskaya squares, Beresteyskyi, Obolonskyi and Nauka avenues, Lesya Ukrainka boulevard, in the Hydropark area, Akademik Strazheska, Oleksandr Dovzhenka, Hetman Pavla Polubotka, Kaunaska and Sklyarenko streets .

The observatory's specialists collected and analyzed 1464 atmospheric air samples from 16 stationary posts.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, at a session on February 29, Kyiv City Council members supported a list of environmental measures for 2024, which includes the restoration of the unique Blue Lake and the cleanup of mercury at the Radical plant site.
