The total area of landfills reaches 3500 m2

In Lviv, environmental inspectors found large-scale illegal dumps in a vacant lot on Truskavetska Street and on the outskirts of the village of Godovytsia, near the city.

Spent car tires, plastic, household waste, old clothes, wooden and plastic boxes, and other trash were dumped there, the State Environmental Inspectorate in Lviv Oblast reported on Facebook.

"At the time of the inspection of the area, the owner of the waste has not been established," the press service said.

It is noted that the area of the landfill in Lviv reaches 2,500 m2, and in Godovytsia – 1,000 m2. The survey materials were sent to local self-government bodies for the elimination of unauthorized landfills.

As you know, illegal landfills pose a serious threat to the environment and human health. After all, they do not have the necessary technical equipment, for example, insulation for drains. When exposed to sunlight and temperature, the waste releases chemicals that end up in the air, soil, and water that people use. In addition, landfills can harbor rodents that carry dangerous infections.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in the Yavorivska community, in the Lviv region, eco-inspectors discovered a plot of soil covered with an unknown brown substance with an unpleasant smell.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, the CEO of Kyivavtodor and the former head of one of Kyiv's maintenance departments were served with a notice of suspicion for land pollution, which caused almost UAH 300 million in damage. Various wastes, including toxic ones, were being transported to the site, which was intended exclusively for snow removal.
