Four residents of Kyiv region will be tried for illegal logging that caused more than UAH 1.5 million in damage.

They destroyed 134 trees on the territory of the Bohuslav forestry, the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor's Office reports on Facebook.

"At the request of the prosecutor, the property of the accused was seized and a lawsuit was filed to compensate for the damage," the press service said.

The investigation showed that the trees were destroyed in June-July 2022 without any permits. The defendants sawed the felled trees into logs and took them out of the forest for further sale.

They are accused of illegal felling of trees in forests committed by a group of people in a conspiracy (Article 246 (4) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in the Kyiv region, in the Boryspil district, "black loggers" cut down 348 trees in forest strips, which caused damage of 2.4 million hryvnias. The police informed the violators about the suspicion.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, the Specialized Environmental Prosecutor's Office achieved certain results in the investigation of the felling of more than 200 century-old oaks in the grove of the Chornobyl Reserve. It is likely that officials from the state-owned enterprise "Northern Pushcha" may be involved in the felling.
