The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources has developed a draft Strategy for the Formation and Implementation of State Policy in the Field of Climate Change for the period up to 2035 and announced its discussion.

The strategy will help to formulate and implement state policy in the field of climate change, in particular during post-war reconstruction, the Ministry of Environment reports on Facebook.

It is noted that the Climate Strategy will be based on advanced technologies and will take into account national interests, as well as:

  • determines the main strategic goals of the systemic approach to the problem of climate change;
  • ensures the formation of a coherent and consistent state policy of low-carbon development;
  • will help Ukraine fulfill its European integration obligations and adapt legislation to EU norms.

"The strategy is one of the main elements in the formation of a coherent and consistent state policy in the field of climate change. Its provisions are aimed at ensuring an effective transition to low-carbon development, while guaranteeing the economic, energy and ecological security of the country," said the Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Victoria Kireeva.

The strategy will be implemented in four three-year stages during 2024-2035. The achievement of its goals will be assessed based on the results of three-year operational plans. Proposals for further implementation will be formed on their basis.

The Strategy is also expected to help:

  • improve regulatory framework in the field of climate change;
  • comply with all international environmental obligations;
  • reduce anthropogenic emissions and increase absorption of greenhouse gases;
  • increase the share of green energy in the energy mix;
  • reduce primary and final energy consumption;
  • achieve climate-sustainable production, supply and distribution of food, as well as increase sustainable and renewable production;
  • strengthen the health care system in the context of climate change, in particular to reduce morbidity and mortality;
  • reduce the impact of climate change on ecosystems.

Remarks and suggestions can be sent until February 26 to the postal address of the Ministry of Environment: str. Metropolitan Vasyl Lypkivskyi, 35; Kyiv, 03035 and email address: info@mepr.gov.ua.
