Two foresters and a Lviv resident accused of large-scale deforestation in a national park

The trees were destroyed during June-July 2023

In Lviv region, a logger, an inspector from the Yavoriv National Nature Park, and a resident of the region were served with a notice of suspicion of illegal logging and transportation of timber in the national park.

The damage from the destruction of the trees reached UAH 2 million, according to the Lviv Regional Prosecutor's Office.

It is noted that the criminals planned to sell the felled wood. According to the investigation, during June-July 2023, the suspects cut down oaks and pines in the Yavoriv National Park.

They were served a notice of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 28 and Part 3 of Article 246 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

"Investigative actions are ongoing. The question of choosing preventive measures for the suspect, as well as imposing an arrest on their property in order to compensate for the damage, is being resolved," the press service said.

The message emphasized that the investigators of the national police worked on the case together with specialists of the Department of Strategic Investigations.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in Volyn, in the Shatskyi National Nature Park near the village of Ostrivya, forestry workers discovered a black woodcutter, who cut down trees with a chainsaw.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Ruslan Strilets said that within the next six months the market of forest products will completely come out of the "shadows" thanks to online certificates on the origin of wood.
