It will take 80 years to restore the burnt forests of Ukraine

Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Ruslan Strilets says the United Kingdom will help Ukraine restore forests and national parks destroyed by the war.

The two countries signed a memorandum at the COP28 climate conference, Strelets wrote on Facebook.

He emphasized that the British partners support Ukraine's efforts and are ready to share their expertise. They also noted the importance of continuing to document the facts of environmental damage caused by the war.

"It will take at least 80 years to restore the burnt forests of Ukraine. I told my colleagues what we are already doing in this direction," wrote Strelets.

He added that he invited British colleagues in 2024 to visit Ukraine to see the impact of the war on wildlife, as well as detail directions for further work

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has started work on the development of a program to attract funds for restoration of Ukrainian forestry.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in September 2022 European ministers responsible for forests and observers of the "Forest Europe" process expressed their readiness to support Ukraine in post-war reconstruction and the implementation of the necessary reforms in the forest sector.
