The figure offered to "solve the issue" for money

In Zaporizhzhia, in the Stepnohorsk community, "black loggers" tried to pay 5,000 hryvnias as a bribe to the police, who exposed them during illegal felling of trees.

Three violators managed to saw down and load about five cubic meters of acacia, reports the head office of the National Police in the Zaporizhzhia region.

It is noted that the loggers planned to sell illegal wood.

The press service said that during the documentation of the crime, the "senior" person involved offered to "solve the issue" for money. He did not respond to the policemen's warning about criminal liability for illegal actions.

"Soon I tried to give a bribe again – got into a police car and put 5 thousand hryvnias in the glove compartment. The actions of the person involved were filmed on the body cameras of law enforcement officers and documented," the message reads.

It is noted that law enforcement officers entered information about committed offenses into the Unified Register of Pretrial Investigations for:

  • Part 1 of Art. 246 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Illegal felling or illegal transportation, storage, sale of forest);
  • Part 1 of Art. 369 of the Criminal Code (Offer, promise or provision of an unlawful benefit to an official).

The message added that the issue of impounding the perpetrators' car and the crime instrument is currently being resolved. Investigations are ongoing.
