This will help create a more sustainable energy infrastructure in the future

The permanent representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Ukraine, Jako Silje, said that the country should give priority to investments in solar and wind energy, biomass and biogas.

This corresponds to the process of joining the EU, and will also contribute to the creation of an ecologically clean and sustainable energy future, he said in an interview with Ukrinform.

"During our long history of working with the government, we have recognized the critical importance of transitioning Ukraine's energy grid to a greener and more sustainable system. We have worked closely with the government to develop a document that highlights the benefits of investing in green and renewable energy and the compelling reasons for doing so." Silje said.

He added that Ukraine can restore its energy system in a more efficient and ecological way. Such a transformation opens up the potential to create a more sustainable energy infrastructure in the future.

According to him, the decisive step is the decentralization of the energy network. This will reduce vulnerability to attacks and increase the efficiency of energy management and production.

"This approach is not only in line with the EU accession process, but also prepares Ukraine for future requirements and expectations. We are convinced that Ukraine should prioritize investments in solar energy, wind, biomass and biogas, as these sustainable sources of energy offer a path to a more environmentally friendly of a clean and sustainable energy future," said Silje.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that Oleksiy Ryabchyn, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources, stated that solving the issue of development of the biomethane industry will help Ukraine get a higher rating from the European Commission.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, chairman of the board of NEC Ukrenergo, stated that within 5-10 years, Ukraine should invest $15 billion to increase the capacity and flexibility of the energy system.
