The Kyiv City Council approved the creation of a landscape reserve of local importance "Brovarskyi lis" with an area of about 125 hectares within the city limits.

On the territory of the 150-year-old forest, numerous species of plants and animals were found, which are listed in the Red Book of Ukraine and Resolution 6 of the Berne Convention, reports the communal association "Kyivzelenbud" on Facebook.

It is noted that the new reserve will be taken care of by the KP "Darnytsia Forest Park Management". Communal workers will preserve and protect the forest and its rare species, including:

  • forest lily;
  • white snowdrop;
  • the dream is revealed;
  • great white heron;
  • European bog turtle;
  • gray hair;
  • red flat-bodied beetle.

The message emphasized that the following is prohibited on the territory of the reserve:

  • any pollution of the forest;
  • soil cover disturbance;
  • collection of rare plant species;
  • to organize camps or make fires outside the specially designated places.

Eco-activists from the "Ukrainian Nature Conservation Group" on Facebook said that this forest is one of the few well-preserved natural forests within Kyiv near Brovary. 150-year-old pines and oaks grow in the forest.

"After the Second World War, many forests around Kyiv were cut down for reconstruction. A pine monoculture was planted in their place. This territory was saved from such a fate, in particular, by the fact that battles took place here, after which fragments of trees and shells remained in the ground," they said.

Eco-activists assume that further research of the forest will reveal new rare species.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that the Supreme Court finally cancelled the building permit plots 7-9 on Mykilska Slobidka in Kyiv on the banks of the Dnieper near the Rusanivka district.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, detectives of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine reported suspicion to the Deputy Chairman of the KMDA Petro Olenych of abuse of office, which led to the development of 0.6 hectares of Nyvka Park.
