Fire raged in habitats of red book salamanders

In the Chernivtsi region in the Vyzhnytskyi National Natural Park due to human negligence in about 7 hectares of beech forest burned.

The large-scale fire was extinguished for two days (October 30-31), according to the Facebook page of the national park.

"A forest fire is a natural disaster that has catastrophic consequences for nature and people. Most often, it occurs due to human carelessness, especially on hot and dry days," the report emphasized.

The director of the national park, Halyna Marku, told the animal welfare organization UAnimals that the fire raged in the habitat of the red salamanders. The fire probably also damaged the birds' nests.

The national park urged forest visitors to follow a number of rules, namely:

  • rest only in specially designated recreational areas or near water bodies;
  • do not set fire to dry grass in fields and meadows;
  • do not throw unextinguished matches or lighters on the ground;
  • do not use pyrotechnic products (firecrackers, sparklers, fireworks, "Chinese" lanterns, etc.) in the forest;
  • do not drive directly into the forest in mechanical cars – sparks from them can cause a fire;
  • do not leave bottles, glass remnants and garbage in the sun, which are easily ignited and can cause a fire;
  • do not arrange fire shows near the forest;
  • refrain from starting a fire in the forest;
  • do not litter

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in the Mykolaiv Oblast in the regional landscape park "Tyligulsky" due to careless handling of fire, a large-scale fire occurred, which destroyed 2 hectares of protected lands.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in Poltava Oblast during 2023, 833 fires occurred in natural ecosystems, in which two people died during dry burning.
