Damages from the blockage of the Vorskli River reached 656 million hryvnias

In Sumy region, eco-inspectors calculated 1.83 billion hryvnias of damage to rivers as a result of military operations.

So far, ecological damage has been calculated based on 14 cases of destruction of bridges and other structures, but this amount is not final and does not reflect the full picture of negative consequences, reports the State Environmental Inspection in Sumy region.

The message said that in the first months of the full-scale invasion in the region, many bridges on highways of local and national importance were destroyed. Most of them ran through rivers and other water bodies.

Eco-inspectors emphasized that significant volumes of reinforced concrete structures, asphalt pavement and other bridge debris fell into the rivers, which had an extremely negative impact on the environment.

It is noted that the rivers suffered the greatest damage from clogging:

  • Vorskla – UAH 656 million;
  • The Seim – more than UAH 90.5 million;
  • Bratenytsia;
  • Kleven – UAH 142 million;
  • Psel – UAH 140 million;
  • Sosnivka – almost UAH 9.2 million;
  • Maly Romain – UAH 3.9 million.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in the Sumy region, eco-inspectors calculated almost 140 million hryvnias in damages from the destruction by the Russian troops of the road bridge over the Psel River near the city of Lebedyn.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in August 2022 in Sumy, eco-inspectors analyzed the water quality of the Psel, Sumka and Strilka rivers, the Kosivshchyna Reservoir and Lake Chekha.
