Foresters did not touch the area of the planned reserve

Near Kyiv, in the Brovarsky forest, a part of which is planned to be declared a nature reserve, foresters conducted a sanitary felling.

Among the destroyed trees were also hollow ones where birds could nest, reports the public organization "Ukrainian Nature Conservation Group" on Facebook.

It is noted that the creation of the reserve was announced on the website of the Kyiv City Council back in April. However, before the final announcement of the protected status, foresters can carry out felling in its areas.

Eco-activists said that the planned reserve is home to the red-listed mushroom, the curly leaf beetle and the red flat-body beetle. These species are indicators of undisturbed natural ancient forests. In addition, a number of red book plants and bats were discovered in Brovary forest.

The authors emphasized that the Sanitary Rules provide that trees performing important biocenotic functions should be left in the areas of selective sanitary felling. They include both old hollow trees and trees with peeling bark.

They noted that a few months ago, foresters promised not to touch the area of the planned nature reserve, which was planned to be cut even earlier. However, they destroyed the trees on the neighboring one.

The report added that, according to foresters, they cut down dangerous trees to protect local residents from injury.

"Actually, the felling was carried out far from homes, roads, and roads," eco-activists emphasized.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in the Kyiv region, the police uncovered a large-scale scheme of illegal felling and sale of wood, the losses from which reached 4 million hryvnias.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in Kyiv, near the Zhytomyrska metro station, unknown persons sawed down two two-hundred-year-old oaks, which were the remnants of a primeval forest. The oaks probably interfered with the plans of the builders.
