The Kyiv authorities are required to preserve the Rusanivska Kosa, which is near the Rusanivka microdistrict of the Dnipro district, from any development, to preserve it in its natural state and not to hinder its visitation.
The corresponding petition, registered on the website of the Kyiv City Council, has already received 2,015 votes out of the required 6,000. The collection of signatures will continue for another 52 days.
In the appeal, it was noted that the Rusanivska spit is a complete nature conservation object with flora and fauna unique to Kyiv, as well as a spawning ground for fish. It is also an important component of the life of the community of the microdistrict and a public recreation place. In addition, the spit is a coastal protective strip of the Dnipro, which has the status of a landscape landmark.
The petitioners are concerned about plans to build a rowing facility on the slope, some of which will be located directly on the buffer strip.
"Posts are being published about holding meetings on this matter with the participation of the head of the Dnipro RDA. Such a possible placement is unacceptable, as it clearly contradicts the current legislation, and also destroys the entire natural ecosystem and can lead to extremely negative consequences," the appeal reads.
It is noted that such construction on the Rusanivska Spit would be contrary to the legislation, namely:
- Water Code;
- Land Code;
- order of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
The authors of the petition suggested moving the rowing base to Trukhaniv Island or Hydropark, which have more favorable infrastructure, including yacht clubs, canoe centers, etc.
In the appeal, it was emphasized that there are a number of sports and recreation grounds on the territory of the microdistrict, which are available to both children and adults.
As EcoPolitic previously reported, the Kyiv community created a petition in November 2022 with the demand to abandon the creation of the National Memorial Military Cemetery in the Lysa Gora tract, which is an object of the nature reserve fund and historical and cultural heritage. In January, the Kyiv City Council abandoned such plans.
