The Teteriv River is the source of Zhytomyr's drinking water

The Zhytomyr District Prosecutor's Office has initiated criminal proceedings regarding the discharge of sewage from the sewage network into the Teteriv River.

The violation occurred near the village of Sloboda-Selets of the Zhytomyr district, reports the press service of the Zhytomyr regional prosecutor's office.

It is noted that the discharge of sewage was filmed by local residents. Ecologists have already taken samples from the Teteriv River for laboratory research.

The message emphasized that prosecutors entered information on the violation of water protection rules (Part 1 of Article 242 of the Criminal Code) into the Unified Register of Pretrial Investigations.

"The investigation is ongoing, during which the legality of sewage discharge in the Teteriv River, the damage caused to the environment and the persons involved in the criminal offense will be established," the press service said.

As you know, for the city's water supply, surface water is taken from the Teteriv River.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in February 2022, in the village of Sloboda-Selets in Zhytomyr Oblast, bright pink sewage was dumped into the Teteriv River, probably due to an illegal injection into the storm sewer.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in Zhytomyr Oblast, in the village of Karabachyn, Brusyliv District, a local oil factory is accused of dumping sewage into the Batiivka River.
