The legislation of Ukraine prohibits the establishment of landfills along rivers

In Transcarpathia, the director of one of the communal enterprises of Rakhiv region will be tried, whose official negligence led to the growth of an unauthorized landfill on the banks of the Tysa River.

This caused damage in the amount of more than 6.5 million hryvnias, reports Transcarpathian Regional Prosecutor's Office.

It is noted that communal workers, which the management knew about, were taking household garbage to a site in the Rakhiv district on the banks of the Tysa. Although the territory is used by the company, the legislation of Ukraine prohibits the establishment of landfills along the rivers.

The press service emphasized that, as the investigation established, the passport of the waste disposal site expired years earlier, and other permit documents were not even produced.

"Despite this, the accused concealed the fact of the further operation of the landfill and did not forbid the employees of the enterprise to continue placing waste there. Thus, during 2020-2021, the area of the landfill increased by 0.15 hectares," the message emphasized.

It is noted that an investigation into the possible involvement of local self-government officials in the crime is currently underway.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in the Kyiv region, in the city of Vyshhorod, eco-inspectors discovered unauthorized landfill of solid household waste on the territory of communal enterprise "Management Company".

As EcoPolitic previously reported, eco-inspectors recorded in Odesa and the region numerous cases of unauthorized landfills industrial, construction and household waste.
