Currently, the public council works on both global challenges and local issues

Svitlana Berzina, head of the public council under the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, said that, even in the conditions of martial law, work is underway on the green transition for future recovery.

In an exclusive comment for EcoPolitic she spoke about the need for Ukraine to implement the "road map" of the Association Agreement, actions to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and the European Green Agreement.

As you know, the public council is a consultative and advisory body of the Ministry of Environment.

"We did not consider the issue of evaluating the work of the Ministry according to any rating, but I can point out that the Minister of Environment Protection and Natural Resources Ruslan Strilets and his team have made progress and understand the importance of cooperation and interaction with all interested parties on the path of reforms," said Berzina.

She noted that the public council is currently working on both global challenges and local issues. This applies, in particular, to the improvement of legislation in the field of:

  • industrial ecology;
  • chemical safety;
  • prevention of climate change;
  • waste management (sectoral legislation);
  • implementation and strengthening of the effectiveness of circular economy tools;
  • preservation of biodiversity, etc.

Berezina emphasized that it is difficult to say which reforms are more important and which are less. After all, the first law of ecology emphasizes that "everything is connected with everything."

"Most of the recommendations developed by the public council are taken into account. If necessary, we hold working consultations and discussions. Achieving a consensus is not an easy thing, but we have a good positive experience, she said. – Working together 24/7 for our better future.”

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that professional association of ecologists of Ukraine (PAEU) criticized the Ministry of Environment for not considering 7 proposals business to the new draft law "On Environmental Impact Assessment".
