In the Lviv region, two black loggers from Sambir district was sentenced to 5 years in prison for cutting down 10 trees, which caused damage to the state of 137.8 thousand hryvnias.

However, the perpetrators will not go to prison if they successfully complete the one-year probationary period, reports the press service of Lviv Regional Prosecutor's Office.

It was noted that the men were tried on a public charge of the Sambir District Prosecutor's Office for the fact of illegal felling of trees, which caused serious consequences (Part 4 of Article 246 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The investigation established that in the winter of 2021, they cut down 10 living fir trees in the state forest farm "Galsillis", which is on the territory of the Turkiv City Council. The total cubic mass of trees was 11.8 m3.

And in the summer of 2022, loggers transported felled trees on trucks that had no license plates.

"The seized forest and car are confiscated as state income and will be transferred to the needs of the Armed Forces," the press service said.

The message emphasized that prosecutors filed a civil lawsuit against one of the convicts for compensation for the damage caused.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in the Lviv region, eco-inspectors caught violators red-handed 621 trees were illegally cut down.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, eco-inspectors and police officers in the Yavoriv district of the Lviv region exposed the illegal extraction of 63 m3 of construction sand.
