Specialists took and analyzed 1,528 samples of atmospheric air

In the air of Kyiv during the week with October 3 to 8, 2022, it was found that the average daily maximum permissible concentrations of nitrogen dioxide were exceeded by 4 times and formaldehyde by 3 times.

Compared to the previous week, the level of formaldehyde pollution has decreased , says the weekly report on air pollution from the Borys Sreznevsky Central Geophysical Observatory.

According to the data of the observatory, the exceeding of the maximum permissible concentration (MPC) in terms of the average daily content of nitrogen dioxide was:

  • 3.1-4.0 times – on Bessarabska and Peremoha squares, Peremoha avenue, and Kaunaska street;
  • 2.0-2.8 times – on Demiivska Square, Lesya Ukrainka Boulevard, in the Hydropark area, Akademik Strazheska, Dovzhenka, Popudrenka, Semen Sklyarenko and Inzhener Borodin streets;
  • no excesses were observed at 37 Nauky Ave. (in the area of the meteorological station).

Exceeding the MPC by average daily formaldehyde content:

  • 1.4-3.0 times – on Demiivska, Bessarabska and Peremoha squares, Peremoha and Nauka avenues, Lesya Ukrainka boulevard, in the Hydropark area, Akademik Strazheska, Inzhener Borodin, Dovzhenka, Kaunaska, Sklyarenko and Popudrenka streets.

Exceeding the MPC by average daily carbon monoxide content:

  • in 1.4 times – on October 7 on Akademika Strazheska Street (intersection with Vaclav Havel Boulevard);
  • 1.0-1.2 times – on Peremogy Avenue.

Other exceedances of MPC by average daily content:

  • suspended solids – 1.0-1.1 times on Bessarabska Square, Peremogy Avenue (Sviatoshin metro area).

Specialists of the observatory selected and analyzed 1528 atmospheric air samples from 15 stationary posts.

As EcoPolitic reported before, eco-activists from the "Ukrainian Environmental Protection Group" criticized the intention of the Kyiv City Council to build the National Memorial military cemetery on the protected territory, namely, in the "Lysa Gora" tract in the Holosiiv district.
