The most important thing in case of such an injury is not to panic.

In Ukraine, there are more and more reports of dogs hit on the roads.

To help the animals, zoo volunteer Anastasia Tikhaya, whose photo spread all over the world during the evacuation from the ruined Irpen, published a guide on her Instagram page that will help you not to get lost in an emergency.

She stressed that according to statistics, 85% of dogs die or become disabled due to the fact that they were not provided with timely assistance.

Tiha stressed that the most important thing in the event of such an injury is not to panic. If the animal is aggressive due to shock or pain, it is worth throwing some fabric over its head, such as a jacket.

“Go to the dog and check if he is alive,” she wrote. “If the animal shows signs of life, you need to immediately take it to the nearest veterinary hospital.”

To check if the animal is alive, Tikhaya advises putting a hand on the dog's chest and checking the heartbeat and breathing. You can also shine a flashlight from your phone into the eyes of the animal, checking the pupillary reflex. In addition, the animal must be moved very carefully. And if he has wounds, stop the bleeding, for example, with a tourniquet.

The zoo volunteer emphasized that the main problem in such cases is money. However, first aid and stabilization of the condition are not too expensive. She advised to immediately tell the administrator or doctor what budget you are counting on.

She noted that you can ask the veterinarians if they know of any volunteers who could help the animal. In addition, you should seek help from people through social networks. Volunteers are ready to help, but very often they do not have time and animals die.

“If you decide to act on your own, then after the hospital, the next stage awaits you,” she stressed.

Quiet said that the animal needed to find a new family. However, this can be a lengthy process, so it is necessary to find a foster home or shelter. After all, it is impossible to let the animal out on the street, it needs care and normal nutrition.

“You will succeed, no one immediately becomes a pro, we all started with the first animal and everyone was scared,” she stressed.

The zoo volunteer added that drivers for hitting an animal face a fine.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that animal volunteer Anastasia Tykhaya asked Ukrainians for help for an animal shelter.

As EcoPolitic reported earlier, 20-year-old animal volunteer Anastasia Tykhaya and her husband Artur Li took out 15 sick dogs on foot during the evacuation from the fire-ravaged Irpen. The photo of Anastasia with dogs was taken by the American photographer Christopher Okikone. The picture went viral on social networks and got into the pages of many world mass media.
