In Zhytomyr, the first phase of the waste processing plant has started, where the depth of processing currently reaches 40-45%.

Zhytomyr Mayor Serhiy Sukhomlyn said this at a session of the City Council.

He emphasized that in a few months the plant will reach a processing depth of 80-85%, after the arrival of Croatian specialists and the launch of the second stage.

"We did not announce or cut the ribbons at the opening of the plant, because we understood that at one time it attracted the attention of the Russian mass media. That is why we did not draw attention to this during the war," Sukhomlyn said.

As you know, the plant was supposed to be launched in February 2022, but due to a full-scale invasion, the launch was postponed. This is the first waste processing plant in Ukraine built with the money of private investors. The capacity of the plant reaches 85 thousand tons per year, it will not burn waste, but has two sorting and composting lines.

At the session of the city council, they also adopted a draft decision on the activities of the waste processing plant. The document stipulates that 10 days after the waste processing plant is put into operation, the utility company "Autotransport Company 0628" will only accept household waste disposal at the municipal landfill:

  • waste after waste processing;
  • waste from production activities of enterprises that, due to the specifics of their economic activity, cannot use the waste processing service;
  • repair waste.

As EcoPolitic reported before, in Zhytomyr in January 2022 the construction of the waste processing plant was completed by 90%.
