For the first time in Ukraine, state air quality monitoring stations have received international recognition

In the Lviv region, two state monitoring stations of the Lviv Regional State Administration have appeared on the global air quality map.

This was reported by the press service of the Lviv Regional Military Administration on its official website.

In the Lviv region, the monitoring stations meet national standards, operate around the clock, and provide verified data that has official status.

Two automated monitoring stations in the Lviv region have already been integrated into the World Air Quality Index (AQICN). These are the following air quality monitoring points:

1) Station in Sheptytsky on Korolyova Street;

2) Station in Dobrotvir on Ivan Franko Street.

The measurement results at these stations have official international status, as the monitoring data will be verified, confirmed, and used in air quality reports at the regional and even national levels. Thanks to this, the data from these monitoring stations in Lviv region are considered the most reliable and official among all those presented in Ukraine.

Volodymyr Korda, Director of the Department of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine, said that we are opening up the data from state air quality monitoring stations to the world. This improves the global community's confidence in the monitoring results. It also makes environmental information accessible to everyone and brings Lviv region closer to European environmental control practices.

It should be noted that a year ago, Lviv region actively contributed to the establishment of air quality monitoring stations. Therefore, in 2024, a working meeting was held in Lviv region on the establishment of atmospheric air pollution monitoring stations in the region and amendments to the State Monitoring Program in the field of atmospheric air protection for the period 2021-2025.

EcoPolitic journalists also recommend reading about which Ukrainian cities topped the air quality anti-rating in 2024.

According to the atmospheric pollution index (API), there were no cities in Ukraine with very high levels of pollution, while high levels were observed in 14 cities: Kamyanske, Dnipro, Kramatorsk, Kryvyi Rih, Lviv, Lutsk, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, Vinnytsia, Kherson, Sloviansk, Cherkasy, Sumy, and Kyiv.
