The draft law on the ratification of the Amendments to the Aarhus Convention was also approved by the specialized committee. 

On Wednesday, June 26, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Environmental Policy and Nature Management recommended that the parliament adopt in the first reading the draft Law No. 11310 "On the Basic Principles of State Climate Policy" developed by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine.

This was reported by the Ministry of Environment.

Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Ruslan Strilets noted that this draft law

  • will become the basis for building the climate architecture of Ukraine;
  • will give a start to the following draft laws, which will allow to fully realize the strategic goals, to become closer to climate neutrality;
  • bring our legislation closer to European legislation;
  • an important step towards Ukraine receiving financing under the Ukraine Facility program.

According to him, climate policy is a marker of the state's civilization.

The eco-committee also approved and recommended adopting as a basis and in general the draft law on the ratification of the Amendments to the Aarhus Convention on genetically modified organisms. Their ratification is provided for by Ukraine's European integration obligations.

In February, EcoPolitic wrote that the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources has developed the draft law "On the basic principles of state climate policy" and announced the start of its discussion.
