September 15 is the anniversary of the founding of the Dutch environmental organization Greenpeace, which has become a symbol of the fight for a clean environment.

In 1971, a group of brave individuals set off on an old fishing boat to Amchitka Island (Alaska) to protest against nuclear weapons testing by the US government. During this period, the US government was conducting a large-scale series of underground nuclear explosions to test nuclear weapons.
In 1964, a strong earthquake occurred in Alaska, partly due to underground nuclear explosions, and people were concerned that it would happen again. A group of brave activists who opposed nuclear policy in 1971 sailed on a boat called Greenpeace. It was after the activists' protest that the word became a symbol of the fight to protect the environment.
Today
Greenpeace is now active in more than 40 countries around the world. The organization is known for its peaceful protests for compliance with environmental requirements. Their organized protests draw public attention to the most important environmental issues.
Most often, the Greenpeace team campaigns against climate change, deforestation, ocean pollution, and biodiversity loss. The organization continues to maintain its independence from governments, as it does not accept funds from the authorities or large corporations.
Their famous slogan, “Think globally, act locally,” has become familiar to millions of environmentalists. And thanks to their first protests, the world learned about US nuclear tests in Amchitka.
