Foresters attribute this to natural factors, systematic feeding, and semi-free breeding

Over the past three years, the number of wild animals in the forests of Volyn and Rivne regions has increased significantly. According to winter census data, the population of wild boars has grown by 32%, roe deer by 30%, and deer by 16%.

This was reported by the State Enterprise "Forests of Ukraine."

Natural factors have had a positive effect on the increase in population. While the hunting ban is in effect, animals can live and reproduce without threats from humans.

Foresters also note the important role of breeding animals in semi-free conditions.

Caring for animals

Controlled environments have now been created in Ukrainian forests, where workers keep animals and prepare them for independent existence in the wild.

The Ukrainian Forestry Agency has noted that the hunting industry is investing in these measures despite the ban on hunting.

People feed animals in winter. This is especially critical during this period, as snow cover blocks forest dwellers' access to food.

The Polissya Forest Office branch has set up 465 feeders, 920 salt licks, and 201 feeding grounds.

"Feeding is carried out daily, regardless of weather conditions and calendar dates. For feeding in January-February this year, 100 tons of grain were purchased," the state-owned enterprise said.

Earlier, EcoPolitics reported that Poland had banned the breeding of animals for fur production. The world's second-largest producer is to completely phase out production by 2033.
