The fire destroyed almost 50 hectares of forest

In Zhytomyr region in 2023 through burning of dry vegetation since the beginning of the year burned 517 hectares of land, in particular in forests, fields and pastures.

Serhiy Malyarchuk, deputy head of the State Environmental Inspection of Polissky District, said this during a briefing in the media center of the Zhytomyr OVA.

He noted that 29 people were brought to administrative responsibility for violating forest safety rules, the fire destroyed almost 50 hectares of forest. The total amount of fines issued to them reached 44 thousand hryvnias. Nine protocols for burning dry vegetation on meadows and pastures have also been drawn up. The total amount of imposed fines was 27 thousand hryvnias.

Malyarchuk emphasized that dangerous substances, including benzopyrene and dioxin, enter the air during the burning of plant remains and garbage. They cause a number of serious diseases, including cancer.

He added that such cleaning can lead to fires in ecosystems, where all living things die in the fire.

Malyarchuk added that there are fines for burning dry vegetation, namely:

  • for citizens — from 3,060 to 6,120 hryvnias;
  • for officials – from 15,300 to 21,420 hryvnias.

Within the nature reserve fund:

  • for citizens — from 6,120 to 12,240 hryvnias;
  • for officials — 21,420 to 30,600.

Earlier, Ecopolitic wrote, that in the Mykolaiv region due to arson on August 20 and 22 a fire destroyed 48 hectares of the protected tract "Andriivske". Damages from the fire reached 128.5 million hryvnias.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, rescuers called on Ukrainians not to burn dry grass and garbage, which often causes fires in ecosystems.
