An entrepreneur was caught red-handed draining sewage from cesspools in Chernihiv region

In 2023, 6 similar violations were discovered

In Chernihiv region, an entrepreneur was pumping out the contents of cesspools and dumping household sewage in a vacant lot.

The offender was detained during another sewage dumping near the village of Andriivka, according to the State Ecological Inspectorate in Chernihiv region.

Such management led to land contamination with hazardous substances. Environmental inspectors conducted a laboratory study of the soil from the drainage site. They found that the land was contaminated with nitrogen and phosphorus compounds.

"These are already 6 documented episodes in the current year," the press service emphasized.

The report said that during the pre-trial investigation of the criminal proceedings over this fact, no signs of criminal offenses were found. The entrepreneur must pay a fine for violating Articles 45, 46 of the Law of Ukraine "On Land Protection" and Articles 13, 15, 17 of the Law of Ukraine "On Waste Management". In addition, he has to reimburse almost UAH 2 thousand in damages for land pollution.

The environmental inspectors emphasized that administrative and criminal liability for land damage and pollution is incurred, namely:

  • 340-1,700 hryvnias – art. 52 and 82 of the Administrative Code;
  • 17,000-68,000 hryvnias or deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years – Art. 239 of the Criminal Code.

In the message, all entrepreneurs and ordinary citizens were called to drain the contents of cesspools and liquid household waste accumulators into the existing complexes of sewage treatment plants.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, the director of a meat processing plant from the Volodymyr district will be tried in Volyn, who organized the dumping of waste from animal carcasses into a forest strip near the village of Ozyutychi.
